So here’s some proof. Next Monday I’m speaking at the Perth AWS User Group about something my team and I did to our own live, revenue-generating platform: moving the whole thing onto AWS CDK without taking it down.
Most CDK talks start with cdk init and an empty account. Ours started with a
real app, launched in 2023, running on hand-rolled deployment scripts, a lone
forever process and an Nginx proxy. The honest version of that story runs in
three phases: a proof of concept, a proper pipeline, and a go-live that cut
production over by DNS with rollback measured in seconds.
I’ll share what worked, what broke, and the gotchas the tutorials skip.

Because this is the work. When I tell a founder that the technical risk is handled, it isn’t a slogan; it’s three decades of doing exactly this kind of thing and living with the consequences. The credibility comes from the scars.
